Shoreline Chamber of Commerce Luncheon

Wednesday, July 8, 2020
11:30 am - 1:00 pm

with Nathan Daum City of Shoreline

City of Shoreline Economic Development Program Manager Nathan Daum will share an update on the City’s COVID-19 Business Support Response Team activities, including the implementation of the City-Council-authorized Small Business Support Program which will provide grants to eligible Shoreline businesses of up to $20,000. More than $1.2 million in total requests for the $500,000 funds available came in during the application period. The City continues tracking and providing updates on other resources available to local businesses at www.shorelinewa.gov/C19BizResponse where you can also quickly sign up for email alerts when new information becomes available. (Make sure to click on the mail icon for “COVID 19 Business Response” News). The City of Shoreline is also studying ways to encourage business use of outdoor space to facilitate safe social distancing as required by COVID-19 public health directives. Meanwhile, the City continues studying ground-floor-commercial policy options, which has been underway since before the outbreak of the pandemic and will be taken up by Council later this year. Join us to learn more about these and other City initiatives intended to support our local business community and get your questions answered.

Nate became the City's Economic Development Manager in 2018. He has 15 years' experience supporting small businesses, non-profits, and government agencies. In his prior role in Real Property and Right-of-way Services for the City of Seattle's Department of Transportation, he was the lead negotiator with property owners and businesses on dozens of easements, agreements, and acquisitions necessary for more than 10 city transportation projects to proceed. Prior to that he was the Founding Manager for the University of Washington’s Startup Hall; a new 15,000 square-foot coworking community for more than 80 tech startups who raised almost $30 million in venture capital while in residence.

We’re all in this together – COVID-19 prevention keeps EVERYBODY safe!

King County has seen a sharp increase in the rate of COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks. Public Health -  Seattle & King County reports that the daily average number of cases has nearly doubled from an average of 40 daily cases in mid-June to 87 daily cases last week. The target for King County is to have 39 cases or fewer per day.  Over half of the new cases are among people aged 20-39. While people in this age group have thus far seen fewer serious medical complications, they can spread the infection to older community members and people with underlying health conditions.

We are urging Shoreline residents to continue to take prevention measures seriously. We have made significant progress in reducing transmission and every new infection puts our vulnerable community members at risk and can set back the time to fully reopen our businesses.

  • Wear face coverings when you go out
  • Wash your hands frequently or use alcohol hand gel
  • Whenever possible, keep 6 feet apart from one another
  • Get tested at the first sign of illness
  • Avoid group gatherings and limit the duration of contact whenever possible
  • If you’re together with friends, hanging out outside is much better than being inside. And, even when outside, avoid close contact with non-household members.
  • People who are older and anyone with underlying health conditions should continue to stay at home and limit contact with others as much as possible.
